Trouble importing DXFs

Post by Banjo »

Hi, New to the site and having a problem.
When I import a DXF into Hycad that I downloaded from here more than half the time there is nothing there. Any advice on what I might be doing wrong?? Its pretty frustrating. Thanks (I searched for a post about this already and could not find any)

There are a few formats of DFX that some programs have problems with and this may be why you are having that problem. You can download other free software programs that read DFX files and see if they will open those files and then save them again buy slightly changing the name of the file like adding an A at the end to id the newly saved file. Inkscape is a free program that will read DFX and SVG files you just open them no import into Inkscape. there are other free CAD programs you can try too. QCAD, IfanView are two.
Another problem is file names with special characters in them like " _ and others some programs will not read them like SheetCan just rename the file without them and that fixes that.

Another thing you can try when they open is do a "zoom extents".
I use Autocad and a lot of the drawings open blank but the drawing is actually just outside of the limits of the Autocad screen. Zoom extents zooms in to whatever size is needed to bring all the items in a drawing into the viewming limits.
Not sure what Hycad uses but you could look in the HELP section.
