hypertherm pm45 question
hey guy im running a powermax 45 on a plasmacam dch2 table. my question is my kerf runs around .057 - .062 at 34 amps was thinking of using 30 amp tips to get my kerf and dross down. mostly i cut 16-12 ga crs. the problem i run into is i cant seem to find a omicsensor(sic) shield for the 30 amp consumables. is there another way of hooking it up?

Re: hypertherm pm45 question
Sounds like you are cutting either too slow, with too much current (amps) or too high off the plate. I also have a DHC2 with a Powermax45, and I consistently get a kerf of around .038" to .045" on thinner materials.
The 30 Amp parts will provide a slower cut with a thinner kerf, but there is no ohmic contact cap for these parts as they are unshielded. If you go on the PlasmaCam user forum, there are some owners on that site that hab fabricated their own ohmic contact device for unshielded parts.

im running it at 240 ipm and 32-34 amps at .048 height. any faster and it skips on the cut occasionally. ill check alignment and play with the speed height and amperage more. thanks jim for the fast response .

Re: hypertherm pm45 question
I also have a 45 but use 30 consumables. I use Electrode 220478, Nozzle 220480, swivil 220479, cap 220483 and the cone number is 220569. I hooked the wire inside the cone and it worked worked great. I had to grind a little off the tip of the cone to make good contact with the metal. Let me know and I can send pictures to show you what it looks like. Very, very simple to hook up. Probably less than 5 minutes

Re: hypertherm pm45 question
Are you using the shield part number 220673....even if you are using the hand torch? If you are using the shield designed for hand cutting...then your torch standoff is too high, which will cause a wider kerf, more dross, and more edge angularity.
